Years ago, someone asked me the watch order for Fate. This is what I said:
Read the visual novel first
Either the one that was released first with the bad porn, or Realta Nua, it doesn’t matter which, unless of course, you are a minor, which means read Realta Nua.
Why this first when Fate/Zero is the ‘prequel’? Simple, Fate Zero assumes that you have already played through the novel, which is why at some points you end up like ‘huh’? when they gloss over how magecraft works.
Also, this is the only place you get the Fate route, aka the one where Shirou romances Saber/Arturia instead of Rin or Sakura. It is your introduction to Fate.
Now you could say ‘well, I don’t have the attention span for that’. Boo hoo. If you can sit through whatever popular movie franchise that spanned over more than seven films, you can sit for a few hours of reading.
What about the 2006 DEEN anime? Technically, yeah, you can watch it too, though here is your fair warning that it tries very hard to smoosh all three routes at once.
But okay, sure, let’s say you ignore this, then what?
I guess you technically can start with Fate/Zero and go into Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works if you like Rin. Or go Fate/Zero to the Fate/Stay Night Heaven’s Feel movies if you like Sakura more.
‘I don’t care about them’
Oh, okay. Guess you can just watch Fate/Apocrypha and then ignore everything else, since Apocrypha is technically set in a different timeline.
But then what after? You are just here for Ritsuka and Mashu? Then ignore everything and just watch First Order, Lost Room in the Moonlight, the Camelot movie ( the second one coming SOON™) and Absolute Demonic Front Babylonia.
Fate is a franchise that has gone through many changes and contradicted itself many times, but what we can definitely all agree on is that people die when they are killed.

Here is my order:
Fate/Stay Night (the visual novel)
Carnival Phantasm
Fate/Stay Night (the DEEN version)
Fate/Stay Night [Unlimited Blade Works] (ufotable, not the DEEN one)
Fate/Stay Night [Heaven’s Feel] I - II - II
Fate/Zero
The Case Files of Lord El Melloi II
Fate/Apocrypha
Fate/Grand Order First Order
Fate/Grand Order Lost Room in the Moonlight
Fate/Grand Order Wandering Agateram
Fate/Grand Order Paladin Agateram
Fate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front Babylonia
Fate/Grand Order Final Singularity- Grand Temple of Time: Solomon
Kaleid Liner Prisma Ilya is an outlier and I do not see it aside from Luvia. I do not take criticism for this.

Emiya-san Chi no Kyou no Gohan is for those that enjoy Shirou and want to know what he’s making for food.
